President Trump on Sunday urged Republicans to resort to a “nuclear option” to pass tougher immigration laws, declaring a potential deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program dead. In a tweet-storm shortly after wishing everyone a “Happy Easter,” Trump blasted “ridiculous liberal” immigration laws and said Mexico is laughing at “our dumb immigration laws.” “These big flows of people are all trying to take advantage of DACA. They want in on the act!” he wrote. “Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL!” he said. Trump has previously suggested changing Senate rules so legislation can pass with a simple majority rather than 60 votes, a move that would help Republicans push through legislation despite Democratic opposition. “Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release. Getting more dangerous,” he wrote. Trump’s chief of staff, John Kelly, claimed to have ended catch-and-release policies while serving as the head of Homeland Security last year.
