Hundreds Missing After Laos Dam Collapse Unleashes Floods

Hundreds of people are missing—with an unknown number dead—after a catastrophic dam failure in Laos unleashed five billion cubic meters of water and flooded six villages. Laos, which borders with Thailand and Vietnam, released a statement via state media saying the collapse in the southeast of the country happened at a hydroelectric dam in Attapeu province late Monday. “Several human lives” were lost and “several hundreds of people [are] missing,” it added, and more than 6,600 people have been left homeless by the floods.
