How Obama's Hurting Minority Women

Feminist bloggers are up in arms over the Obama administration’s recent move to limit young women’s access to emergency contraception (EC). Now, Color Lines writer Akiba Solomon breaks down how the policy will affect women of color. For one thing, rates of unintended pregnancy are much higher for Latinas and blacks than white women—so “if anybody needs better access to EC, it’s us.” What’s more, the restrictive policy forces pharmacists to store EC behind the counter—a significant barrier for undocumented immigrants who don’t have state-issued IDs.
