Hoverboards, Avengers-Meets-Oz, and More Viral Videos
From a Wizard of Oz Avengers mashup to hoverboards and hoverbikes, WATCH our countdown of this week’s buzziest videos.
5. Avengers of Oz
The Wizard of Oz and The Avengers have a few common elements—a team of superhuman beings, each with particular talents, on a quest to defeat an evil maniac—but it’s still a strange matchup for a mashup. Yet in the hands of YouTuber Darren Wallace, it’s a perfect pairing, with the Tin Man as Ultron, the Cowardly Lion as Thor (both have such lustrous golden locks), and the Scarecrow as Captain America.
4. Google Street View Climbs Yosemite’s El Capitan
The Google Street View team took their cameras up Yosemite’s El Capitan with climbers Lynn Hill and Alex Honnold. As a result, you can climb alongside them and marvel at the amazing views and the athletic skill it takes to asced thousands of feet of rock wall. You can read about the technical skill it took to document all this on Google’s blog.
3. Puppy Time-lapse
We’ve all seen countless videos of humans aging over time. But what about puppies?
2. Animated Summer Jam
A graphic design studio in Lima, Peru called Youth Experimental Studio released a music video this week that feels like summer. The watercolor animation accompanies Kool A.D.’s s mellow-vibed track “Hickory,” which feature Talib Kweli and Boots Riley (and some explicit lyrics).
1. Real Life One Step Closer to Star Wars and Back To the Future
It’s been a good week for hover tech. Hoverboards like the one Marty McFly rode have long been the domain of Internet fantasy and Tony Hawk pranks. But Lexus has apparently developed an actual hoverboard that is rideable.
In other hover-news this week, the U.S. Defense Department plans to invest in hoverbike technology developed by the UK company Malloy Aeronautics. Probably not the sort of backing the company was expecting when it launched its Kickstarter campaign last year.
