House Cancels July Recess

The House of Representatives has canceled its July recess that was due to start on the 18th. Majority Leader Eric Cantor told members that they will be voting on a balanced-budget amendment, on which the House had been scheduled to vote the week after the recess. The amendment would require the federal government to balance its annual budget. Cantor’s office said in a press release that Republican members should support the amendment “to ensure that we begin to get our fiscal house in order.” Republicans in the Senate plan to offer a similar amendment, though it is not expected to get enough votes to be passed.
