House Approves $50.7B in Sandy Aid

After a delay that infuriated the nation, the House has approved a $50.7 billion measure for the victims of Superstorm Sandy. The 241-180 vote pushes the measure to the Senate, where it will likely be taken up next Tuesday. Leaders in both New York and New Jersey applied ruthless pressure to Congress in early January after House Speaker John Boehner pulled a bill that would have provided much-needed relief. The October 29 storm wreaked havoc on the East Coast, pounding New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut with catastrophic wind and rain and killing 140 worldwide.
