'Honeymoon Killer' Back in U.S. Custody

He served his time in Australia—will he serve his time here, too? Gabe Watson, an Alabama man who allegedly murdered his wife while scuba diving on their Australian honeymoon in 2003, has been deported back to the United States and is now in U.S. custody. Watson is accused of turning off his wife’s air supply and holding her underwater. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in Australia and served 18 months. Australians agreed to ship him back to the U.S. only with a guarantee that he wouldn’t face the death sentence. Watson is “looking forward to returning home and successfully defending himself,” said his lawyer.
