Twenty-seven years ago, Christopher Knight went to live alone in the wilderness. Now he’s going to live in jail. For almost three decades, Knight resided in a hut in the woods in Maine, stealing from nearby camps at nighttime to survive. After what he estimates was more than 1,000 burglaries, he was arrested last week after getting caught in the act. Since making the decision to live in the woods in 1986, Knight claims to have spoken to only one other person. He says he spent his time reading and meditating—and, you know, stealing.
