Hair Used to Clean Up Oil Spill?

Environmental activists have come up with an innovative (and admittedly gross) way of cleaning up the massive Gulf Coast oil spill: human and pet hair. Matter of Trust, a California-based ecological charity, is now soliciting concerned citizens for hair donations to make homemade brooms, mats, and barriers that will help to shield Louisiana’s coastline, the Village Voice reports. Why hair? As the Voice notes: “Hair is good at soaking up oil, which you'd know if you ever had to sit behind a band nerd in class.”
