A Greek athlete was expelled from the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro on Friday over a failed drug test, according to Greece’s Olympic Committee. The unnamed athlete, whose pre-Rio sample tested positive for banned substances, was sent back to Athens. “The leadership of the Olympic team in Rio announces the positive first sample of a member of the team during drugs testing conducted in early July in Athens,” the committee said. “The Hellenic Olympic Committee has requested the testing of every Greek athlete taking part in the Games. The specific team member has now left the Olympic Village.” The 2016 Olympic Games kick off on Friday night with the opening ceremony.
