Gov. Perry Sends 1,000 Troops to Border

In an effort to tackle border crime, Texas Governor Rick Perry announced plans to send 1,000 National Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley. The $12 million per month effort, known as "Operation Strong Safety," is to help the Texas Department of Public Safety prevent Mexican drug cartels from infiltrating through weak ports of entry. "I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault and little children from Central America are detained in squalor," Perry said.
