GOP Blocks 'Don't Ask' Repeal

It’s still not safe for armed-service members to ask or tell: The Republican Party blocked a vote in the Senate to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” on Tuesday. Their filibuster meant that the Senate could not close debate on the issue, despite the fact that a majority supported the measure, 56-43. Gay-rights groups are calling on the Senate to reschedule a vote for a repeal in December, after the Pentagon completes a review of the policy. The GOP’s filibuster blocks the entire defense authorization bill, which the repeal was a part of.
