Google Threatens to Leave China

Google is threatening to pull out of China because the Gmail accounts of human-rights activists were breached. Though the tech giant did not specifically accuse the Chinese government, it said Tuesday that a "highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China" was detected, and an investigation revealed that "a primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human-rights activists." Google said it is no longer willing to censor search results in China, a requirement of the government. For several years, Chinese censorship requirements have been difficult for the company to reconcile with its motto, "don't be evil."
