‘God Save the Queer’: Inside a Brazilian LGBT Church (VIDEO)
A ‘drag queen pastor’ tells the story of a welcoming church in Rio.
“God does not refuse anybody. God is everyone's father.” So says Marcus Lord, the self-defined “drag queen pastor” of the Metropolitan Community Church in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
Founded in the 1960s by a gay American priest, the church has been a welcoming place for LGBT Christians of Rio for 11 years. Marcus tells the story of the church and the message that a transgender pastor gets across to a community that is often alienated from their faith.
