Gambia President Rejects Election Result

Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh said on Friday that he is now rejecting the outcome of last week's election which he lost to opposition leader Adama Barrow. The election result was unexpected and celebrated as it brought an end to Jammeh's 22-year rule in which human rights groups accuse his government of detaining, torturing and killing opponents. "After a thorough investigation, I have decided to reject the outcome of the recent election. I lament serious and unacceptable abnormalities which have reportedly transpired during the electoral process," Jammeh said. Barrow beat him 45.5 to 36.7 percent.
