A 16-year-old Roma boy was abducted and beaten into a coma in a Parisian suburb by as many as a dozen assailants. The teen, known as Darius, was found left in a shopping cart at the edge of a highway. He had been taken from a shantytown last week, apparently as revenge for an attempted burglary in a nearby housing project. President François Hollande called the attack "beyond words and unjustifiable" but not a hate crime. The French government has been increasingly destroying Roma camps, where people live in squalid conditions and face discrimination.
