Foster Children Take Too Many Psychiatric Drugs

Foster children in Massachusetts, Florida, Oregon, Michigan, and Texas are being prescribed mood-altering drugs at higher doses than the maximum approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Additionally, many are taking five or more at the same time that are not proven to work simultaneously or to be safe to combine. A new report from the Government Accountability Office argues that the federal government needs to be doing more to oversee foster children’s use of psychiatric medication.
