FEMA Chief: ‘Texas Is About to Have a Very Significant Disaster’

The head of the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) stressed that Texas residents should heed evacuation warnings as Hurricane Harvey makes landfall overnight. “Texas is about to have a very significant disaster,” Brock Long said Friday on MSNBC, amid fears that because of voluntary coastal evacuations, many residents may choose to remain despite expected “life-threatening floods” and 110+ mph winds. “It’s going to be a very dangerous situation,” Long emphasized, “so let’s set the expectations... we have to let people know that.”
