Showdown

Feds to Announce AZ Lawsuit

Obama’s first constitutional showdown over states’ rights is nigh: The Justice Department will announce plans Tuesday to sue the state of Arizona over its controversial new anti-immigration law. The DOJ will argue that the law, which requires Arizona police to check immigration status while enforcing other laws, usurps federal authority. The federal government will also seek an injunction against the implementation of the law, which is set to kick in July 26, until the lawsuit is resolved.
