Feds Still Think Pot Is Dangerous

President Obama may have signed legislation two weeks ago banning federal interference with state medical marijuana laws, but the U.S. attorney’s office, on behalf of President Obama’s Justice Department, still thinks pot is a dangerous drug with no medical value. In a court filing on Wednesday, the U.S. attorney’s office opposed a challenge to a federal law that classifies marijuana as a Schedule One drug, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and no safe medical use. There is “some dispute among doctors as to whether marijuana is medicine,” but there is evidence supporting the government’s conclusion that “this psychoactive, addictive drug is not accepted as safe for medical use at this time, even with medical supervision,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Broderick wrote.
