FBI: ISIS-Inspired July 4th Plots Foiled

FBI Director James Comey confirmed Thursday that authorities thwarted ISIS-inspired planned attacks over the Fourth of July weekend, as first reported by The Daily Beast. Comey did not provide the number of plots foiled or their intended targets. Some of those arrested were in communication with ISIS militants through encrypted data, according to a U.S. security source. The FBI reportedly pressured tech companies to lift encryption that allows users privacy protections shielding them from law enforcement. Comey has argued that dozens of people inspired by ISIS have disappeared from FBI monitoring because of encrypted data.
