FBI Investigating Massey for Bribery

Someone may pay for the disaster at the Upper Big Branch Mine, after all: NPR reports that the FBI is investigating Massey Energy and its owner for bribery after the explosion that killed 29 workers. “Sources familiar with the investigation say the FBI is looking into possible bribery of officials of the Mine Safety and Health Administration,” says NPR. Also, Massey’s CEO, Don Blankenship, may be under investigation for criminal negligence. In a statement, Massey said it was not aware of the allegations.
