Father of Woman Who Joined ISIS Sues Trump Administration Over Daughter’s Citizenship

The father of an Alabama woman who joined ISIS is suing the Trump administration after the U.S. government tried to rescind her citizenship, CNN reports. Ahmed Ali Muthana filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court in Washington, D.C. to stop what he calls an “unlawful attempt” by the United States to strip his daughter of her citizenship. Hoda Muthana, from Hoover, Alabama, traveled to Syria in 2014 to join the militant group, but now says she regrets the decision and wants to return to the U.S. The lawsuit, filed against President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Attorney General William Barr, “seeks injunctive relief preventing the United States government from unconstitutionally robbing (Muthana and her son) of their rights as United States citizens,” according to the court document. President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday that he had directed Pompeo to prevent Muthana from entering the country.
