GUIDELINES

Facebook Bans Revenge Porn Posts

Facebook is clearing up its policy on what it bans and why with the launch of new guidelines for community standards on Monday. The social-media network provided more specific rules about what type of information users are allowed to post, following previous incidents in which the company flip-flopped on its policy. The new rules prohibit pages supporting “violent, criminal, or hateful behavior” as well as physical or financial threats and bullying. For the first time, Facebook is banning content that promotes sexual violence or exploitation, including revenge porn. The company, however, will not automatically scan for violations and will rely on users to report offensive content. Facebook also released a transparency report Monday outlining government requests for user data and removing content.
