ESPN said Friday it “immediately suspending the publication of Grantland,” the sports culture site founded by Bill Simmons in 2011. ESPN President John Skipper said in May, however, he had a long-term committment to the site. As many as 40 people may lose their jobs. Simmons left ESPN earlier this year after being suspended by his bosses several times over remarks he made about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and a sports-radio station. Simmons, who launches a talk show on HBO next year, commented on today's news with a tweet: "I loved everyone I worked with at G[rantland] and loved what we built. Watching good/kind/talented people get treated so callously = simply appalling."
