‘Elementary’ to End After Seven Seasons

CBS’ Elementary, the modern-day retelling of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes & Watson, will be ending after its seventh season, Deadline reports. When the show—starring Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller—was renewed for a seventh season, it was reportedly decided that it would be the series’ final chapter. “A lot of parties came together and talked about their positions on the show—both in terms of business and in terms of creative—and we all decided that this was an opportune time to say goodbye to a show that has been very, very good to us,” CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl told the website. According to Deadline, one of the factors that led to the show ending was Liu and Miller’s contracts coming up. The contracts, along with the story “winding down,” are said to have led to a “natural” breaking point where everyone could walk away “happy and successful.” Elementary producers reportedly imagined the sixth season to be the show’s last, but they felt they “had more stories to tell” and continued with a 13-episode seventh season. The network has not yet set a premiere date for the new season. Kahl told the website no “followup or spin-off series” were in the works, but CBS is not ruling the idea out.
