El Chapo’s Sons Indicted on Drug Trafficking Charges in U.S.

The sons of convicted drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman have been charged with one count of “conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana” in the U.S., according to the Justice Department. According to an indictment unsealed last week, Joaquin Guzman Lopez and Ovidio Guzman Lopez are accused of conspiring to distribute five kilograms or more of a substance containing cocaine, five hundred grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine, and one thousand kilograms or more of a substance containing marijuana from April 2008 through April 2018. DOJ believes the 34-year-old and 28-year-old currently reside in Mexico. “El Chapo” was found guilty of sending half-million pounds of cocaine into the U.S. over three decades earlier this month and now faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
