Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán secretly entered the United States while on the lam from prison, his eldest daughter said in an interview. El Chapo reportedly snuck into California twice. “My dad is not a criminal. The government is guilty,” Rosa Isela Guzmán Ortiz told The Guardian, explaining that Mexican politicians accepted large donations from El Chapo and that, in return, those same officials ignored his prison escapes. El Chapo was recaptured in January after seven months on the run. The Guardian could not independently verify Guzmán Ortiz’s claims. She said she consulted with her father about answers to reporters’ questions.
