Egypt Death Toll Rises to 525

The Muslim Brotherhood called for supporters of deposed Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi to take to the streets Thursday after the military-controlled government’s barbaric attack on protesters the day before. Meanwhile, Wednesday’s death toll continues to rise: the Egyptian health ministry says 525 people were killed and nearly 4,000 injured. One mosque where Morsi supporters had gathered, became the site of more than 200 casualties. Wednesday’s crackdown was expected, but its scale and brutality—12 hours of bulldozers, tanks, tear gas and live gunfire—shocked both Morsi supporters and governments around the world.
