East Coast to Get Heat Relief

After boiling in three-digit temperatures, the East Coast will finally see some relief. Temperatures are expected to cool into the low or mid-80s by Monday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Pollina. Saturday saw brutal heat down the Atlantic coast, with temperatures climbing to 105 degrees in Atlantic City, New Jersey, 103 in Norfolk, Virginia, and 101 in Philadelphia. The hot and humid weather has caused at least a dozen deaths since it hit last week, and threatens to cause power shortages and excessive water usage. 10,000 Con Edison customers in New York City and 9,000 in neighboring New Jersey remained without power Saturday, and the Environmental Protection Agency reports water use has increased by 50 percent.
