Djokovic Advances at Wimbledon

That’s more like it! Already this week, Wimbledon has seen Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Maria Sharapova bow out to early-round losses—but men’s top-seed Novak Djokovic reestablished order in the tennis world, at least for now, with an easy victory Thursday evening in London. He beat American Bobby Reynolds 7–6 (7–2), 6–3, 6–1 to advance to the third round. Reynolds was the last American man standing. The road to the final is looking easier for Djokovic, who should still expect to be challenged by Andy Murray—on whom Britain’s hopes are pinned each year. Djokovic and second-seeded Murray seem to be on a crash course toward the final. But any sports fan knows not to count the chickens before they hatch—this is just the kind of field in which a newcomer could emerge and surprise us all.
