DeVos to Revamp Title IX, Obama-Era Schools Sexual Assault Policy

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said on Thursday that the Trump administration will replace the school sexual assault policy put in place by the Obama administration, Politico reported. She said the policy will be revamped to better balance the rights of victims and the accused. The 2012 Obama guidance said for the first time that Title IX requires school districts, colleges, and universities to combat sexual harassment and violence. It also threatened to cut funding if schools failed to do enough. “We will seek public feedback and combine institutional knowledge, professional expertise and the experiences of students to replace the current approach with a workable, effective and fair system,” DeVos said. “This is not about letting institutions off the hook. They still have important work to do.”
