Denver Man Leads Chile Mine Rescue

If Chile's 33 trapped miners are successfully rescued this week as expected, the jubilant nation will have Jeff Hart to thank. Hart, a native of Denver, has been the lead operator of the drill, working to reach the trapped miners since the cave-in occurred in August. Called in from Afghanistan, where he was doing contracting work for U.S. army bases, Hart was hailed as hero by the miners’ friends and families on Saturday when his drill finally broke through to the trapped men. “You have to feel through your feet what the drill is doing,” Hart said after the delicate operation. “I was nervous today.”
