Democrats Will Shield Napolitano

The aftermath of the attempted Christmas Day bombing is putting Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano under much scrutiny, but fellow Democrats say they are trying to shield her from GOP verbal batterings, and resignation. With seven congressional committees currently investigating the failures of the Dept. of Homeland Security, Napolitano is sure to face heavy criticism, but an aide to a senior Senate Democrat says "the breaches aren’t really the fault of Napolitano and DHS, so she’s not going to be the target.” In efforts to protect Napolitano, Democrats are helping her avoid the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she will face bashing in a public forum, by having her appear before the gentler Senate Commerce Committee instead.
