‘Daily Show’s’ Trevor Noah: Trump Spox Katrina Pierson Has the ‘Hardest Job in the World’
‘The Daily Show’ host examines the role of Donald Trump surrogate Katrina Pierson, who has the most thankless job in politics.
It’s hard out there for a Donald Trump campaign surrogate.
The challenge of speaking for Trump, as The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah examined Monday night, is perhaps best exemplified by his “spokesperson” Katrina Pierson, who just this past weekend went on CNN and falsely claimed that the war in Afghanistan began under President Obama.
“I really feel so bad for her and all of Donald Trump’s surrogates,” Noah said. “Because that has to be the hardest job in the world.” Because, “as a surrogate, whatever a candidate says, the surrogate has to defend it.” Even when the candidate in question says that Obama is the “founder of ISIS.”
After playing a montage of Trump surrogates’ best attempts to defend that particular claim, Noah added, “Obama was not the founder of ISIS. It is crazy that you have to say this, but let’s get that straight, all right. George Bush was the founder. No, look, really, Bush wasn’t the founder, either. But if any president helped create it, he did the most.”
But it gets worse. After those surrogates spent days defending Trump, Noah said the candidate “turns around and royally fucks them” by saying he was being “sarcastic” the whole time. “I’m not sure that Donald Trump knows what sarcasm means,” Noah said, before showing a clip of Pierson saying the “answer is yes and no” on whether her boss was being sarcastic.
“Yeah, that’s exactly what America needs in a president,” he said. “A man who is so all over the place that even the people who are hired as communication specialists are now basically the shrugging emoji.”
