Fox is set to win the rights to a true-crime story published in The Daily Beast Saturday about an ex-cop who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game. The movie version of the story, which was written by Jeff Maysh, will be directed by Ben Affleck and star Matt Damon. The Pearl Street partners will produce the movie, and Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese of Deadpool are set to write it. Universal, Netflix, and Warner Brothers bid unsuccessfully on the option. The Daily Beast story details how former police officer Jerome Jacobson, who worked as head of security for a company that produced the game pieces for the McDonald’s Monopoly game, stole winning pieces and sold them, making millions of dollars. Jacobson enriched not only himself, but also mobsters, psychics, strip-club owners, and drug traffickers.
