CT Mayor Under Fire for Taco Comments

A Connecticut mayor chomped down on a real red-pepper issue Tuesday. Asked what he would do to help East Haven¹s Latino residents, Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. said he “might have tacos when I go home, I’m not quite sure yet.” The city is currently under investigation by the federal government for racial profiling, and four East Haven police officers were arrested Tuesday for allegedly harassing Latino residents. Maturo, who called the arrest of the East Haven officers “unfortunate,” apologized Wednesday for his remarks. In the 2010 census, 10.3 percent of East Haven residents identified as Latino or Hispanic.
