Critics: Due Date’s Stars Deliver

Expectations are high for Todd Phillips, who directed 2009’s breakout hit The Hangover, to repeat his success with this weekend’s Due Date. So what did the critics think? The pairing of Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis scored high with reviewers. They’re “an unlikely duo so off in their chemistry as to be bizarrely on,” wrote Entertainment Weekly. Likewise, called the pair the film’s saving grace with their “perfect comic timing and chemistry.” Still, the spot-on casting couldn’t salvage a tired script, according to The Wall Street Journal, which called the film’s plot “a retread of Planes, Trains & Automobiles minus the trains, and minus John Candy.”
