Couple Held by Taliban Speaks

In light of recent news involving Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the family of an American woman who went missing with her Canadian husband in 2012 have made public two videos in which the prisoners ask the U.S. government to help free them from the Taliban. The videos of Caitlin Coleman and Joshua Boyle were emailed to her father last July and then again in September by an Afghan man with ties to the Taliban. Coleman says she gave birth in captivity. “I would ask that my family and my government do everything that they can to bring my husband, child and I to safety and freedom,” she said. The U.S. believes the videos are authentic, but are not much help as they don't offer a lot of clues as to where and when they were made. The couple met online and then proceeded to spend months traveling first in Latin America and then to central Asia, before being abducted in Afghanistan. They were described by family as naïve travelers who “really and truly believed that if people were loved and treated with respect that that would be given back to them in kind.”
