Cops: Theater Shooter Bought Gun Legally

John Russell Houser, the right-wing extremist who killed two and injured nine at a Thursday night showing of Trainwreck in Lafayette, Louisiana, was armed with a semi-automatic handgun that he purchased legally. Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft says Houser bought the gun at a pawn shop in Phenix City, Alabama last year. Craft also said Houser had visited the theater more than once, ostensibly to see “whether there was anything that could be a soft target for him.” Houser killed himself after the Thursday night rampage with a single shot.
