Conrad Murray Gets 4 Years in Prison

Michael Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison, the maximum sentence. Murray was found guilty earlier this month of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Jackson, who died of a heart attack after taking drugs prescribed by Murray. Murray faced up to four years in prison on the charges. Prosecutors had sought the full sentence, as well more than $100 million in restitution to Jackson’s children. Despite giving the maximum sentence, Judge Michael Pastor said he was “troubled” by the restitution claim and instead ordered Murray to pay “appropriate restitution” to Jackson’s family and children that will be determined later. Murray’s lawyers had sought a sentence of probation for their client, claiming that he will “always be the man who killed Michael Jackson” and that would be punishment enough.
