CIA Spy: My Tip Led to Mandela’s Arrest

A CIA spy has claimed that his tip helped authorities in apartheid-era South Africa arrest Nelson Mandela in 1962, which led to his imprisonment for 27 years. Britain’s Sunday Times cited comments made by Donald Rickard, a former U.S. vice-consul in Durban and CIA operative, to film director John Irvin, whose new film Mandela’s Gun will screen this week at Cannes. “I found out when he was coming down and how he was coming... that’s where I was involved and that’s where Mandela was caught,” Rickard reportedly said.
