Cholera Death Toll Reaches 138

Haiti might be beginning to suffer the cholera outbreak that many had feared ever since last January’s earthquake claimed 300,000 lives. The death toll is currently up to 138 and another 1,000 people have been hospitalized with severe diarrhea and dehydration, both symptoms of the waterborne disease. Haiti’s Ministry of Health, however, has yet to make an official announcement. The United Nations is also holding off on labeling the outbreak. The spike in possible cholera cases will certainly become an issue ahead of the November 28 presidential election. “I don't even feel like campaigning anymore,” said Charles Henri Baker, one of the two candidates. “It's unbelievable when they tell you the number of people who are sick.”
