China Pans Trump Climate Treaty Exit Threat

In an unusual move for a country that rarely comments on foreign elections, China on Tuesday panned Donald Trump’s suggestion that the U.S. back out of the global climate-change pact that is meant to take effect Friday. The Paris Agreement, which the Republican presidential candidate has threatened to reject if elected, was negotiated by nearly 200 countries. “If they resist this trend, I don’t think they’ll win the support of their people, and their country’s economic and social progress will also be affected,” said Xie Zhenhua, China’s top climate-change negotiator. “I believe a wise political leader should take policy stances that conform with global trends.”
