New research published in the journal Pediatrics on Monday concludes that child marriage is a health risk, leading to a broad range of psychiatric disorders like depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorders. Children who marry are also more likely to have nicotine, alcohol, and drug addictions. Most states require parental consent for marriage under 18; many states require court approval under 16; but in Texas you can marry as young as 14 with parental approval.
