Chelsea Manning ‘Safe’ After Tweets Spark Suicide Concerns

Chelsea Manning sparked concerns of suicide among her supporters late Saturday after posting a pair of tweets that seemed to suggest she was about to jump off a building. In the now-deleted tweets, the former soldier posted a photo of what appeared to be her standing on the ledge of a building. “I’m sorry. I tried. I’m sorry I let you all down,” Manning wrote. “I’m not really cut out for this world. I tried adapting to this world out here but I failed you. I couldn’t do this anymore. I can take people I don’t know hating me but not my own friends,” she said. The posts sparked an outpouring of concern from Manning’s fans, some of whom urged her to call a crisis hotline. A brief message posted a short time later said she was “safe” and “on the phone with friends.”
