Brick Thief

Cheap Trick

A British thief may have tried to cover his tracks after stealing a $4,872 brick signed by artist Gavin Turk and replacing it with a 65-cent replica at the Bricks exhibition in South London. The show’s organizers noticed the day before the two-week exhibition closed that the brick in question was a stand-in with the words, “Thank you, have a nice day” printed on it. Some believe the poor substitution was taken from a stack of 500 bricks on display in another part of the gallery that visitors were encouraged to take. Turk, a 42-year-old British conceptual artist, usually earns “thousands of pounds” for his work and is reportedly “upset but flattered” by the robbery. Larceny is apparently the new sincerest form of flattery.
