Casualties Up 22% in Afghanistan

The United Nations has found that 2014 saw the highest number of bystanders injured or killed in Afghanistan in five years—10,548 civilian casualties, which includes 3,699 deaths. The figure is up 22 percent from the previous year. The report blames the Taliban and other insurgents for 72 percent of the casualties and attributes 14 percent to government forces and foreign troops.
