Police said an armed man who carjacked a sedan is dead after he led authorities on a high-speed car chase and barricaded himself inside a barbecue restaurant in Downey, Calif., on Thursday. The man, who was not named, was pronounced dead inside Chris' & Pitt's restaurant but his cause of death was unclear. Police shot at the suspect but Sheriff's officials said a further investigation was needed to determine how he died. The suspect, who first alerted authorities when he stole a car, ditched the vehicle and carjacked a sedan by threatening the driver at gunpoint. He then fled on foot into in a barbecue restaurant, according to Officer Alex Rubio of the California Highway Patrol. At least 80 patrons and employees escaped. It's unknown if there were any hostages but at least three people left the restaurant during the standoff.
