Campaigns Set Pre-Debate Expectations

Barack Obama and Mitt Romney were both stricken with sudden modesty before their first presidential debate this Wednesday. “Governor Romney … he’s a good debater. I’m just OK,” President Barack Obama said at a rally in Nevada on Sunday. And while the Republicans sent out Jersey enforcer Chris Christie this weekend to say that the “whole race is going to turn upside down come Thursday morning,” Romney’s camp took a more measured approach. “We’ve had some missteps, but at the end of the day, the choice is clear,” Republican vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan said. “I don’t think one event is going to make or break this campaign.”
